DOLJANCHI
Dol or Doljanchi is the term used when a Korean baby celebrates his first birthday. The child is left in a table where he can freely pick up objects that is believed to represent his future. If he picks up money, he will be wealthy; if he gets a book, he'll be smart; if he grabs a stethoscope, he will become a doctor. This tradition can be traced way back in Korean history where death rates of children are high. The town celebrated and wished for the child to have a long life.
